Now sharing our First-day tour details in a gist:-

We started our journey by traveling on Kolkata-Guwahati up Garibrath Express leaving the station at 9.40 pm. Though we reached New Jalpaiguri(NJP) station on time we faced a slight problem while bargaining with the local Sumo/Bolero drivers as our trip was totally planned on the 11th hour by our friend/tour planner. As it was off-season also, so after a hell lot of bargaining we got a decent quality Bolero for ₹2700 up to Lepchajagat by touching Mirik, Gopaldhara Tea Estate & two other viewpoints(for detailed info, refer the vlog).

After reaching  Mirik, the silent hill town of Darjeeling, we realized that boating on Mirik Sumendu Lake & handicraft shops nearby were closed during our visit. Following that we took a small lunch break at Gopaldhara Tea Estate premises where we got really warm hospitality from the restaurant owner.

After taking some snaps at Gopaldhara Tea Estate & we started moving towards Lepchajagat as the weather was changing drastically. Fortunately, we did not get rain throughout the whole day in spite of having heavy shower prediction. Now our Driver recommended a beautiful homely place named “Salakha Homestay” at Lepchajagat which guarantees you a mesmerizing view of Kanchenjunga & Darjeeling city’s top distant view from the 1st floor itself. Now here comes the funniest part, initially we were charged ₹7000 for room consists of 3 double beds with an attached washroom having geyser facility. But as I mentioned we are crazy folks & master in bargaining in such kind of scenarios. Trust me after a hell lot of bargaining, we got that room for a mere cost of ₹1800 only because of off-season only.

As soon as we checked inside the room, nature showed his extreme part by pouring a lot from those passing rain clouds. Now your question should be why to visit this offbeat green hamlet “Lepchajagat” instead of visiting & staying at mainstream Darjeeling city only? Briefly speaking, Lepchajagat is all about dense forest areas filled with pines, oaks, and rhododendrons. And all that is combined with an excellent view of Kanchenjunga peaks, abrupt weather change, passing clouds, and serene tranquillity.

Besides sharing some of the absolute exotic places which are very close to Lepchajagat:-

1) Jorphokhri (Only about 5kms away).

2) Ghum station & Monastery( Only about 10kms away).

3) Pashupati Market located at the Indo Nepal border (Only About 14kms away).

4) Mirik City & Lake

5) Manebhanjan which is the base for Sandakphu trek(Only about 16kms away).

[N.B:- The distance was found after googling so it may vary].
