As reported by Torrentfreak, the U.S. ambassador to Vietnam, Ted Osius requested to suspend all illegal file sharing and free movie streaming website including 123movies. MPAA described 123Movies and GoStream that “The site takes numerous steps to hide the identity of the operator, including using Cloudflare, but there is strong reason to believe the operator is still in Vietnam; content is uploaded using cyberlockers from numerous email accounts originating from Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy“

In March 2018, 123movies becomes the most popular illegal movie streaming website in the world. It was operated from Vietnam and gots 98 million visitors/month. On 19 March 2018, the site goes offline and also give a note that, ‘We’ve been providing links to movies and shows for years. Now it’s time to say goodbye. Thank you for being our friends and thanks for staying with us that long. Please pay for the movies/shows, that’s what we do to show our respect to people behind the movie/shows.’
